Installing
Four steps on macOS
-
Open the disk image
Double-click Dolmen-1.8.0.dmg in your Downloads folder. A window opens with the installer inside it.
-
Run the installer
It puts the Audio Unit and the VST® 3 in the places macOS expects, which are the Components and VST3 folders in your system Library. Nothing goes anywhere else and nothing runs in the background afterwards.
-
If macOS objects
The first launch of anything downloaded can be stopped by Gatekeeper. If you see a warning, open System Settings → Privacy & Security, scroll to the bottom, and click Open Anyway next to the Dolmen entry. This is the normal path for a newly released plug-in and you only do it once.
-
Restart your DAW
A DAW scans for plug-ins when it starts, so one that was already open will not see Dolmen until you quit and reopen it. Logic rescans on its own; if it does not, hold down the Control key as it launches and choose to reset the plug-in cache.
Loading it
In your DAW
Logic Pro
Make a software instrument track and load any instrument. Click the MIDI FX slot above it, then Audio Units → Takt Audio Labs → Dolmen. Press play.
Ableton Live
Drop Dolmen on a MIDI track as an instrument. On a second track holding your sound, set MIDI From to the Dolmen track and arm it. Live cannot host Audio Unit MIDI effects, so this routing is how every MIDI generator works there.
Anything else
Load the VST® 3 as an instrument and route its MIDI output wherever you need it. It emits silence on its audio output by design.
The seven days
How the trial runs out
The clock starts the first time you open Dolmen in a DAW, not when you downloaded it. Until it runs out nothing is limited: every generator, the full library browser, chords, call and response, drag to track.
When the seven days are up, the plug-in stops generating and asks for a licence key. Nothing is taken away from you: every pattern you dragged onto a track is ordinary MIDI that belongs to your project, and it keeps playing whether Dolmen is licensed, unlicensed or deleted.
Reinstalling does not reset the clock, and neither does setting your Mac's date back.
After that
Buying a key
A licence is €49 at launch. Your receipt carries the key.
Paste it into the panel Dolmen shows you and it activates on the spot. That is the one moment it needs an internet connection; after it, the plug-in never contacts anything again. One purchase covers three machines, and you can release a machine from inside the plug-in yourself when you sell a Mac or replace a drive.
